COLUMBUS — The Columbus State University softball team dropped a 12-4 decision to Peach Belt Conference opponent Lander University in game one of a three-game series Saturday evening at Cougar Field.
Columbus State answered in the second inning as
Izzy Ripatti connected on a solo home run to left field, putting the Cougars on the board. The Cougars continued to chip away in the third, scoring two unearned runs following a Lander throwing error to trim the deficit to 6–3.
Ripatti led the Cougars offensively, going 2-for-2 with two home runs and two RBI's.
Ansley Collins added a pair of hits, while
Gracyn Gurley scored a run.
In the circle,
Khloe Shears (16–8) was charged with the loss after allowing six runs in the opening inning.
Gracyn Gurley and
Lily Miller provided relief appearances for Columbus State.
Columbus State will close out the series with a doubleheader against Lander University on Sunday, May 3, with first pitch scheduled for 12:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. at Cougar Field.
