COLUMBUS, Ga. | The CSU Cougars Women's Soccer team begin their season 0-1 after falling just short of the Florida Southern Moccasins 3-2 here at the Walden Soccer Complex Thursday (Aug 27) evening.
Florida Southern struck first as Hayden Johnston scored the opening goal of the season. The Moccasins continued to build momentum, adding two more goals before halftime. Hayden Ealey converted a penalty kick before Ellie Dossantos found the back of the net to extend the Florida Southern lead. The Cougars entered halftime trailing 3-0 after recording one shot, four saves and five corner kick attempts in the opening half.
Following a slow start to the second half, Columbus State began to find its rhythm. The Cougars were awarded a penalty kick, and
Brianna Nguyen converted the opportunity to put CSU on the board and cut the deficit to 3-1.
The momentum continued to shift in favor of Columbus State late in the match. Florida Southern was issued a red card, forcing the Moccasins to play the remainder of the contest with 10 players.
Mia Robinson stepped up for the ensuing free kick and found the back of the net, pulling the Cougars within one at 3-2.
Despite the second-half comeback effort, Columbus State was unable to find the equalizer as Florida Southern held on for the 3-2 victory. The Cougars open the 2026 season with a 0-1 record, while the Moccasins improve to 1-0.
