ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. | Kendal Coreil scored twice in the final 16 minutes as the Columbus State University Women's Soccer team erased a two-goal deficit to earn a 2-2 draw against Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference heavyweight matchup Saturday afternoon at the Flagler Athletics Complex.
The draw moves Columbus State to 6-2-2 overall and 2-0-2 in PBC play, while Flagler moves to 2-4-3 overall and 2-1-2 in the conference.
Flagler struck first in the 23rd minute when Phoebe Davidson found the back of the net to give the Saints a 1-0 advantage.
The Saints doubled their lead late in the opening half as Haley Stafford scored at 38:58, sending Columbus State into the break trailing 2-0.
The Cougars continued to apply pressure after halftime and finally broke through in the 75th minute. Coreil finished a chance off an assist from Brianna Nguyen at 74:42 to cut Flagler's advantage to 2-1.
With time beginning to run out, CSU found the equalizer. Gianna Musci set up Coreil at 85:38, and Coreil delivered her second goal of the afternoon to bring the Cougars all the way back at 2-2.
Columbus State continued to push over the closing minutes, but neither side found the deciding goal as the conference matchup finished even.
The Cougars controlled much of the attacking pressure, finishing with a 16-11 advantage in shots and putting 11 attempts on goal compared to four for Flagler. CSU also generated 11 corner kicks while holding the Saints to five.
