COLUMBUS, Ga. | The Columbus State University Women's Soccer team secured its first home victory of the season Sunday afternoon, earning a dominant 6-0 win over previously unbeaten Eckerd College at the Walden Soccer Complex.
Shania Wegesend powered the Cougars' fast start with two goals in the opening 16 minutes. Wegesend put CSU ahead in the 11th minute before striking again less than five minutes later off an assist from Mia Robinson.
Skye Tumbelty extended the advantage in the 20th minute, giving Columbus State three goals during a nine-minute stretch and a 3-0 lead entering halftime.
The Cougars continued to control the match after the break. Robinson scored her team-leading third goal of the season in the 60th minute to push the lead to four.
Kendal Coreil added her first goal of the season in the 84th minute following assists from Brylee Schermerhorn and Wegesend. Jada Goodman capped off the scoring in the 89th minute with her second goal of the campaign.
Columbus State controlled the match from start to finish, outshooting Eckerd 24-4 and placing 15 attempts on goal. The Cougars did not allow a shot on goal while limiting the Tritons to just one corner kick.
Ashlyn Valentine and Huda Sayedzada combined for the shutout in goal as CSU improved to 2-2 on the season. Eckerd suffered its first loss and moved to 2-1-1.
