Sammy Styers

Sammy Styers is in his 20th year as an assistant coach with the Columbus State University baseball program. Styers serves as the first base coach for the Cougars, works defensively with the outfielders and assists with the hitters, as well as recruiting. He is also responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of Ragsdale Field.

Since joining the Columbus State staff, Styers has helped lead the Cougars to 10 NCAA Tournaments including Division II College World Series appearances and national runner-up finishes in 2007 and 2018. Columbus State also won the 2006, 2010 and 2016 and 2021 Peach Belt Conference Tournaments and the 2008, 2016 and 2022 PBC regular season titles.

Styers, a former four-year starter at Gardner-Webb University, is ranked among the top in career games played. He was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-Region and honorable mention All-American teams his senior season.

Styers holds a Business Administration degree from Gardner-Webb and an M.B.A. from Columbus State. He is married to the former Emily VanMeter of Wilkesboro, NC. They have a son, Inman, that was born in October of 2013 and daughter Adeline, born May of 2016.
