Jimbo Davis, who is entering his 31st year at Columbus State University during the 2024-25 academic year, serves as the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Development, Marketing and Community Relations for the Cougar Athletics Department. One of the most renowned cheerleading coaches in the nation, Davis is also CSU’s Spirit Coordinator.
In his tenure as the head cheerleading coach, Davis has turned Columbus State into a national powerhouse, winning seven national championships under his guidance. In addition, the Cougars have won 20 Peach Belt Conference championships in 26 seasons.
The team has also found success on the international level as six members of the Columbus State cheer program brought home gold medals in the second annual world championships, hosted by The International Cheer Union.
In 2010, Davis retook his post as the head coach of the dance team. Under Davis' leadership, CSU has won seven PBC titles and placed nationally in many of the country’s top events.
The Columbus native has been a guest speaker at numerous cheerleading conferences on the college level. Also, Davis has served as a judge at multiple international and national competitions as well as the Georgia High School Association’s state championship. Due to his influence on the cheerleading community in the Columbus and surrounding areas, Davis was inducted into the Chattahoochee Valley Sports Hall of Fame in 2019.
Davis is a 1992 graduate of Chattahoochee Valley Community College with an associate’s degree in finance. He earned his bachelor’s degree in recreation management in 1994 and his master’s degree in public administration in 1996 from Columbus State. Davis lives on Lake Harding off the Chattahoochee River in Salem, Ala. He enjoys water sports, golf, and spending time with family and friends.
