COLUMBUS – For the third consecutive season, the Columbus State University women's soccer program has brought home the Peach Belt Conference regular season title as the eighth-ranked Lady Cougars defeated Montevallo 5-0 Wednesday. The PBC tilt took place at the Walden Soccer Complex.

The regular season title is the ninth championship won by the Lady Cougars and head coach Jay Entlich since the inception of the program in 2004.

"I'm so proud of the girls for many different reasons," stated Entlich. "To win three straight regular season championships is no easy task and they should be proud to continue this great legacy that so many great players have created for them."

By clinching the regular season title, the Lady Cougars will enter next week's PBC Tournament as the number one seed. CSU won the tournament last season defeating North Georgia 1-0 in the title match.

Columbus State (14-2-1, 9-0-1 PBC) had no problem with Montevallo on Wednesday quickly going in front as freshman Olivia Jarrell struck for a goal in the first minute of the match. Nicole Corcione set up the play by dribbling into the left side of the box before sending a quick pass across the penalty area to a streaking Jarrell. Jarrell found the ball and tapped it in for the goal.

Just six minutes later and it was 2-0 as Cassandra Wade struck for her sixth goal of the season. Senior Chelsea Person was racing down the end line before chipping a pass to Wade, who was at the right corner of the box. Wade instantly took the shot after receiving the pass giving Ellie Mouyal no chance for a save in goal for Montevallo.

The early scoring barrage continued for CSU as Jarrell scored her second goal of the match in just the 15th minute. Jarrell took advantage of a bad clearance, deflecting the ball and quickly corralling it before sending the shot into the back of the net.

In the 26th minute, Columbus State struck again, this time thanks to Taylor Marks. Once again, Corcione was the playmaker finding Marks in the center of the box by curving the pass around a defender. Marks centered the shot up and surprising Mouyal in goal as the keeper didn't even move from her position giving the Lady Cougars a 4-0 lead.

After halftime, the Lady Cougars continued to fire away at goal and eventually built their lead up to 5-0 in the 78th minute.

A beautiful free kick by Hugrun Elvarsdottir found Meshoa Hatcher's head inside the box and the former keeper did the rest as Hatcher scored her first colligate goal. Elvarsdottir took the free kick from about 50-yards out.

Montevallo (2-12-2, 1-9-0) took its only shot in the match in the closing seconds as Taylor Gonzales sent a desperation shot wide. In the match, CSU outshot the Falcons 29-1.

Maylyn Parsons and Paige Betsill pitched another combined shutout for the Lady Cougars with each playing a half apiece. Parsons improves to 13-2-1 with the victory while the team blanked its fourth straight opponent.

Columbus State will conclude the regular season on Saturday hosting UNC Pembroke. The match is schedule to begin at 1 p.m. at the Walden Soccer Complex.
