COLUMBUS – Nine first-half goals lifted the sixth-ranked Columbus State University women's soccer team past Francis Marion 9-0 on Saturday. The Peach Belt Conference match was played at the Walden Soccer Complex.
The shutout was the fifth straight for the Lady Cougars, who have now held their opponents scoreless over the last 483 minutes.
"I was happy with how efficient we were on the offensive end," head coach
Jay Entlich. "The girls stepped on the field and stuck to the gameplan and it showed today."
Columbus State (11-2-0, 7-1-0 PBC) needed less than five minutes to get on the board for the first time.
Mandy Janowitz delivered a perfect corner into the box that

Less than two minutes later,
Hugrun Elvarsdottir played a ball from the right side into the box and
Cassandra Wade tapped it home to make it 2-0.
Elvarsdottir flipped the script in the 13

After missing once high and another time wide,
Olivia Jarrell finally found the net in the 22
nd minute. Wade put a pass on the foot of the sophomore and Jarrell beat the defender in the box for her team-leading eighth goal of the season.
The match stayed at 4-0 until the 30 minute of the match, when the Lady Cougars started to pour it on.
After two earlier assists, Janowitz got in on the scoring act in the 30
th minute finding the net from the left side of the box. The senior would cap her day with a second goal five minutes later off a great combo play from Jarrell and Corcione.
Flo Spano tallied the only goal off the Lady Cougar bench on Saturday, coming in early and scoring after a pass from Corcione. The goal was the fifth of the season for the freshman.
