Â
"Our first goal of winning the Peach Belt Conference regular season is complete. Now, we move on to our second goal of winning the conference tournament next week."
Â
As was the case on Thursday night, Columbus State didn't need much time to get rolling on Saturday.
Â
Hugrun Elvarsdottir worked with the ball in the left side of the box in the third minute of action before sending a crossing pass into the middle.
Olivia Jarrell got on the end of it and touched it into the left side for the first of her three goals on the afternoon.
Â
Nicole Corcione then got in on the act six minutes later. The senior worked down the goalline from the right side and tried to slip a pass in front of the net. The pass was deflected, but Corcione was able to corral it and poke it home.
Â
The Candler, N.C. native was at it again in the 15
th minute as
Mandy Janowitz played a pass back over her head that Corcione beat the defender to. From there, the senior was able to slot it inside the far post for her second of the day and 10
th of the season.
Â
Jarrell found her second goal in the 32
nd minute of the match.
Taylor Marks sent a ball forward in the middle of the park setting Jarrell up just outside the box. The sophomore beat the one defender standing between her and the net and made it a 4-0 match.
Â
After the halftime break, the onslaught continued for the Lady Cougars.
Â
Georgia College (7-8-1, 4-8-0) worked to clear the ball out of the box in the 53
rd minute, but the clearance found Marks at the top of the box. The senior let it rip and blasted the ball home for her second of the season.
Â
The hat trick for Jarrell was capped off seven minutes later. Corcione played a short pass to Jarrell at the top right corner of the box. Jarrell then launched a shot into the upper left of the goal for the first hat trick of her career. The assist moved Corcione into the top spot in the CSU record book with 30 career helpers.
Â
With less than 15 minutes to play,
Angelica Tabares and
Delaney Borror each got into the scoring act to spread the match out even further.
Keyle Snyder and
Kristy Gash picked up the assists.
Â
Columbus State will now gear up for next week's Peach Belt Conference tournament. The Lady Cougars will host a quarterfinal match on Wednesday with the opponent and time still to be determined.
