COLUMBUS – The Columbus State University women's volleyball team will begin postseason play Friday taking part in the 2016 Peach Belt Conference Tournament. The eighth-seeded Lady Cougars will take on top-seeded Flagler at 10 a.m. in Milledgeville, Ga. in the opening round of the tournament.

Last Time Out

In an elimination game, the Lady Cougars swept Montevallo 3-0 on November 11. Zoemy Barreto Pereira had a great match with 10 kills while hitting .400 in the match. Senior Mary McCarty also had 10 kills for the Lady Cougars.

Cornett on Matchup

"This is what we have been working for this whole season," said CSU head coach Casey Cornett. "We know we have the talent to pull out the win, but we have to be disciplined and play our game and not let one play derail our confidence."

Series History

Flagler is a perfect 8-0 against the Lady Cougars since CSU restarted the program. The Saints defeated Columbus State twice this year, but CSU battled to a decisive fifth set against Flagler in Columbus on September 30 before falling 3-2. This will be the first meeting between the two schools on a neutral site.

About Flagler

Flagler won a share of the Peach Belt Conference regular season championship with a 20-6 overall record and a 16-2 mark inside the conference. The Saints shared the championship with USC Aiken, but earned the top seed thanks to the conference tiebreaker.

The Saints have won four PBC Tournaments since joining the PBC in 2009. FC swept USC Aiken last season to win the title.

Sara Davis is one of the best middle hitters in the league as she averages 3.24 kills per set. She ranks fifth in total blocks (94) and is second in hitting percentage (.337).

Tara Savisky is third in the PBC in assists per set averaging 10.65.

CSU Notes

Columbus State is making its third overall appearance in the PBC Tournament since restarting the program in 2013.

The Lady Cougars are 0-2 all-time in the PBC Tournament with both matches coming against Montevallo.

Megan Frame needs just one kill to become the first Lady Cougar with 900 career kills. The senior is already the program leader in hitting percentage as well as kills.

Mary McCarty ranks eighth in the PBC in kills per set (3.10).
