MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – After a tremendous senior season, Columbus State University volleyball player
Mary McCarty was selected to the All-Peach Belt Conference second team Thursday at the annual awards banquet on the eve of the PBC Tournament.
Â
McCarty becomes just the fourth all-conference selection for the Lady Cougars since the program was restarted. In 2014, Katie Poole was a first team selection with Erika Gelzinyte being a second team player.
Â
A Columbus native, McCarty has been outstanding all season for the Lady Cougars. She ranks just outside the top-10 in the conference in total kills with 313, but is eighth in kills per set averaging 3.10. She has 17 solo blocks, the sixth-most in the conference, while having 47 total blocks. The senior also added 12 service aces.
Â
This season, McCarty had three games with 20 or more kills, including a career night against Augusta as she tallied 21.
Â
McCarty's 313 kills are the fifth-most in a single-season by a Lady Cougar. She is hitting .177 this season, which would be the ninth-best mark by a Lady Cougar in a season with over 300 attacks. In her career, McCarty has 571 kills, the fourth-most in program history.
Â
Columbus State will kick off the 2016 PBC Tournament tomorrow morning taking on top-seeded Flagler at 10 a.m.
