PENSACOLA, Fla. – Brooke Nail found the back of the net in the 66th minute for the eventual game-winner as the 13th-ranked Columbus State University women's soccer team took down West Florida 3-2 on Wednesday. The match was played at the UWF Soccer Complex.

"This was an excellent match," said head coach Jay Entlich. "I tip my cap to West Florida. This is going to be one of the most talented teams we play the entire year and they fought us until the final horn.

"To battle back and face adversity like we did tonight  was very important. We need to know that we can come out on top when we are in those situations."

Hugrun Elvarsdottir took the opening shot of the game for the Lady Cougars in the seventh minute, but it was West Florida that put together the first strong attack.

The Argonauts ripped off a pair of shots that Maylyn Parsons kept out of the net before they finally struck. Kaley Ward took a through ball in the 12th minute and put it in the right side for the early lead.

Columbus State (6-2-0) answered back 10 minutes later. Mandy Janowitz set up Olivia Jarrell behind the defense and the sophomore beat the goalkeeper one on one to even the game at one.

CSU took the only three shots of the remainder of the half, but the match went to the break tied.

The Lady Cougars came out in the second half and controlled the early possession. CSU got off four shots in the first seven minutes and finally took the lead in the 56th minute.

It was Janowitz again that set up the scoring chance, this time sending the through ball to Cassandra Wade who sent home her third tally of the year.

The lead was short-lived though. West Florida (6-3-0) quickly worked the ball down the field after the kickoff and drew a foul inside the box. Marjorie Boilesen scored the ensuing penalty kick to level the match at two.

Nail's winning goal came 10 minutes later off a corner kick. Janowitz picked up the assist for the third time, as her corner kick found the head of Nail who netted her second goal.

The victory was the first for CSU in five meetings with West Florida.

Columbus State will head back into Peach Belt Conference play on Saturday with a home match against Lander. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
