MORROW, Ga. – A pair of goals in each half would be more than enough for the 15
th-ranked Columbus State University women's soccer team on Wednesday night in a 4-1 win at Clayton State. The Peach Belt Conference match was played at Laker Field.
The victory is the 31
st straight for the Lady Cougars in the month of October, dating back to the 2013 season.
"You're happy any time you can get a result on the road," head coach
Jay Entlich said. "We scored some good goals tonight and are glad to get three points away from home."
It didn't take long for Columbus State (7-1-0, 4-1-0 PBC) to get on the board, as
Cassandra Wade found the back of the net in the seventh minute. The senior took a pass from
Kimmy May and slotted it home for her team-leading seventh goal of the year.
Amanda Murphy doubled the score in the 40
th minute, scoring off a great cross from
Maddy Peterson. Murphy then found the net again after halftime, lofting a long shot from outside the box over the keeper's head. It was the first multi-goal game of the sophomore's collegiate career.
Olivia Jarrell capped CSU's scoring with just over 20 minutes to play, tallying her sixth goal of the year.
Clayton State (3-6-0, 1-4-0) was able to avoid the shutout, scoring on a penalty kick in the 79
th minute.
Bria Riancho was spotless in net for the Lady Cougars, making three saves and keeping a clean sheet through her 75 minutes for the victory.
CSU outshot the Lakers 15-5 for the match.
Columbus State will wrap up a three-match road swing at Georgia Southwestern on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Americus.
