COLUMBUS – It was a record-setting night for the fourth-ranked Columbus State University women's soccer team, as the Lady Cougars defeated Georgia Southwestern 14-0 on Wednesday. The Peach Belt Conference match was played at the Walden Soccer Complex.

The 14 goals are the most in a single match in Lady Cougar history.
Maddie DeFranco put her name atop a CSU list as well, breaking the single-match points record with nine in the victory.

"This was a great night for us to get everyone into the match and
Maddie DeFranco was finally able to get in the scoring column," head coach
Jay Entlich said. "We were very efficient and effective around the net as well, which is something we work on every day."

The goals came rolling in for Columbus State (11-0-1, 8-0-0 PBC), with
Kimmy May and
Riley Clark each scoring in the opening minutes on passes from
Flo Spano.

Rachael Sweigard got her night started with a goal in the 25
th minute, before DeFranco got rolling. DeFranco finally broke through with her first collegiate goal in the 39
th minute, then quickly added her second just 34 seconds later. Sweigard added her second in the 44
th minute, with an assist from DeFranco to send the match to the half at 6-0.

Goals continued to flow after the break with
Olivia Jarrell netting her 12
th of the season on Senior Night. Fellow senior
Brooke Nail got into the scoring column in the 55
th minute.

Spano added a goal two minutes later before
Sarah Beth Nies tallied her first Lady Cougar goal in the 59
th minute. Sweigard then finished off her first collegiate hat trick in the 62
nd minute.

Caitlyn Peterson notched her first tally of the season on CSU's 12 goal of the evening followed by DeFranco completing her trifecta. Nies closed out the scoring in the 77
th minute with her second.

DeFranco registered three goals and three assists on the evening to set the single-match record. DeFranco and Sweigard are the first Lady Cougar teammates to record a hat trick in the same match.

The Lady Cougars outshot Georgia Southwestern (2-12-0, 0-8-0) 38-0 in the contest.

Columbus State heads to Francis Marion on Saturday with kickoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
