COLUMBUS – It's 10 consecutive wins for the third-ranked Columbus State University women's soccer team, as the Lady Cougars downed Tusculum 6-0 on Wednesday. The nonconference match was played at the Walden Soccer Complex.
Columbus State (13-0-1) completed a perfect home portion of the regular season schedule, winning all eight matches on their home field. CSU also scored at least three goals for the 10
th consecutive game, setting a new program record.
"It's good to see our offense getting better every match as we get to the end of the regular season," head coach
Jay Entlich said. "We want to test ourselves in the nonconference and Tusculum was a team that had some really good wins this season."
The Lady Cougars set the tone early with
Olivia Jarrell forcing a save less than 90 seconds into the match.
The opening goal came in the 18
th minute, as
Amanda Murphy collected a turnover at the top of the box and ripped a shot that went through the keeper's hands and rolled into the net. The goal was the first of the season for the junior.
Maddie DeFranco then doubled the advantage in the 35
th minute, tapping home a centering pass from
Olivia Jarrell. The Lady Cougars took the 2-0 lead into the halftime break with a 10-1 edge in shots.
The offensive attack found another gear in the second half, with
Flo Spano getting into the scoring column in the 52
nd minute. The junior buried a shot off a pass from
Maddy Peterson for her third of the season.
Parker Morgan found the net for the first time on the season in the 63
rd minute, taking a long pass from
Riley Clark and blasting a ball through the keeper's mitts to stretch the margin to four.
The goals continued to come down the stretch, as Jarrell cleaned up a rebound for her 15
th of the year in the 71
st minute and DeFranco added her second of the day in the 81
st.
Bria Riancho made it five straight scoreless outings in net, upping her scoreless minute streak to 467. The sophomore now has five shutouts on the year.
The six goals were the most allowed by Tusculum (7-6-3) since the 2015 season. CSU outshot the Pioneers 30-4 on the day.
Columbus State will wrap up the regular season on Saturday at North Georgia. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. in Dahlonega, Ga.
