AIKEN, S.C. – The third-ranked Columbus State University women's soccer team kept its unbeaten record intact with a 3-0 win at USC Aiken on Saturday. The Peach Belt Conference match was played in Aiken, S.C.
Columbus State (9-0-1, 6-0-0 PBC) remains on top of the conference standings and tallied three more goals for the sixth straight contest. The victory was the 250
th for the Lady Cougar program, all under the direction of head coach
Jay Entlich.
"I'm very pleased with our amount of possession today," Entlich said. "We would like to be more efficient at the net, but we created a lot of chances and still scored three goals."
The Lady Cougars got off to another quick start on Saturday, netting a goal less than five minutes into the match.
Amanda Murphy dribbled into the box from the left side and her centering pass found
Olivia Jarrell at the back post. The senior one-timed the ball into the net for her eighth goal of the year.
The shots continued to rack up for CSU throughout the first half, but the match remained at 1-0 despite a 14-4 advantage in the shot column.
Columbus State finally doubled up its advantage in the 57
th minute as
Brooke Nail flicked a pass down the left side of the field to
Kimmy May. May then worked her way into the box along the goalline and rolled a pass in front of the net that
Riley Clark put home on a slide. The goal was the sixth of the season for Clark.
The Lady Cougars finished things off in the 82
nd minute, with Clark doing the assisting. The junior took a through ball on the right side and played a pass across the face of the goal. Jarrell came flying in from the left side to pound the ball into the net for her second of the day.
CSU outshot USC Aiken (2-6-0, 0-3-0) 30-7 on the afternoon.
Bria Riancho stopped the only two Pacer shots on goal for her third shutout of the season.
Columbus State's next match will be next Saturday, Oct. 13 against Georgia College. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Walden Soccer Complex.
