WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Columbus State University baseball team finished off its weekend sweep at Rollins with a 12-4 victory on Sunday. The nonconference series was played in Winter Park, Fla.

Columbus State (10-2) has now won four straight games and all three of its weekend series to start the season.

"I thought our guys had a good approach at the plate today," head coach Greg Appleton said. "We were patient and took the walks they gave us and then came up with some timely hits with runners on base."

The Cougars got rolling early and often on Sunday, putting three runs up in the second and third innings. Robert Brooks hit his fourth home run of the season to start the scoring in the second and Justin Evans singled home a pair later in the inning after three Rollins walks.

Rollins (6-6) scored its first run of the game in the bottom of the second, but the Cougars came right back with three more.

Following a walk to Frank Wager and a Brooks single, Grant Berry went deep for the second time on the year to make it a 6-1 game. The Cougars then got a run in the fourth and fifth innings on singles from Garrett Kirkwood and Evans.

A Rollins miscue added two more runs to the scoreboard for the Cougars in the sixth and Turner Vincent made it 11-1 with a RBI double.

Columbus State capped its scoring for the day in the seventh inning, as Kirkwood belted his second long ball of the spring.

The offense was more than enough for T.J. Clark, who improved to 2-2 on the season after six innings on the mound. The junior allowed three runs on five hits with eight strikeouts.

Alan Carter tossed two scoreless innings in his first collegiate work and Miles Dutton finished it off in the ninth.

Brooks and Vincent each had three hits on the day to lead the Cougar offense. Vincent reached in all five of his plate appearances. Evans and Kirkwood had two hits apiece.

Columbus State will travel to former Peach Belt Conference rival Montevallo on Wednesday for a midweek contest. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
