COLUMBUS – The third-ranked Columbus State University men's tennis team got the season started with a 9-0 sweep of Georgia Southwestern on Thursday. The match was played at the John W. Walden Tennis Center.

The Cougars raced through doubles with three victories. Second-ranked
KP Pannu and
Alvaro Regalado took their match 8-2, while 24
th-ranked
Matei Avram and
Zach Whaanga doubled up the opposition 8-4.
Shao-Yu Yu and
Arnold Kokulewski rounded out the doubles portion with an 8-5 win.

The top-ranked singles player in the country, Pannu got off to a 1-0 start in singles with a 6-4, 6-1 victory. No. 18 Whaanga lost just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 win, with No. 22 Regalado flipping the score at 6-1, 6-0.

Matei Avram each rolled 6-0, 6-0, while
Jorge Vargas dropped one game in a 6-1, 6-0 win.

Columbus State is back on the court Friday against Morehouse. First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m.
