BOCA RATON, Fla. – The sixth-ranked Columbus State University men's tennis team scored a huge 8-1 win on Wednesday at No. 3 Lynn. The nonconference match was played in Boca Raton, Fla.

Columbus State (11-2) earned its second top-10 victory of the season, having already defeated then-No. 8 Lander.

The Cougars got the day started off on the right foot, winning two of three doubles matches to grab the early edge.

Alvaro Regalado and
Zach Whaanga rolled 8-2 at the top spot and
Shao-Yu Yu and
Arnold Kokulewski grabbed an 8-4 victory at third doubles.

Lynn (10-4) earned its lone point of the day with a 8-6 win over
Matei Avram and
KP Pannu at second doubles.

Singles play belonged to the Cougars, with wins in all six matches.

Paul Sprengelmeijer grabbed the first point at fourth singles as his opponent was forced to retire. Pannu then rallied back after dropping the first set to win 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 at first singles.

Whaanga made quick work of his opponent 6-2, 6-2 at the second position, while Avram won 6-2, 6-1 at fifth. Regalado was a 7-5, 6-0 victor at third singles and
Jorge Vargas finished it off with a 6-2, 6-2 win at sixth.

Columbus State has another big match coming on Friday, as the Cougars take on seventh-ranked Flagler. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Saint Augustine, Fla.
