COLUMBUS – The third-ranked Columbus State University men's tennis team picked up another win on Friday, taking down No. 15 USC Aiken 9-0. The Peach Belt Conference match was played at the John W. Walden Tennis Center.

Columbus State (13-3, 6-0) has now won six straight matches as it remained perfect in league play.

The Cougars got rolling Friday behind three doubles wins. No. 11
Zach Whaanga and
Alvaro Regalado tallied an 8-4 win at the top doubles position, while
Jorge Vargas and
Shao-Yu Yu were 8-3 winners at third.

Second doubles needed an extra game, but
KP Pannu and
Matei Avram picked up a 9-7 victory.

Pannu was a 6-2, 6-3 straight-set winner to lead the Cougars in singles. Whaanga battled back after losing 5-7 in the first set to win 6-2 in set two and 10-8 in the tiebreak for the win.

Regalado was up 6-1, 1-0 when his opponent retired.
Paul Sprengelmeijer won quickly 6-1, 6-0 at fourth singles. Avram was victorious 6-2, 6-4 at fifth and Vargas completed the perfect day with a 6-1, 6-1 win.

Columbus State will have another conference match on Saturday, playing host to Francis Marion. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Walden Tennis Center.
