COLUMBUS – Down to the final week of the regular season, the third-ranked Columbus State University men's tennis team picked up a 9-0 win over No. 40 Auburn Montgomery on Wednesday. The nonconference match was played at the John W. Walden Tennis Center.

Columbus State (17-3) now has eight wins over ranked opponents this season, including six in its last eight matches.

Doubles play featured just two matches on Wednesday, as AUM didn't field a team at the third position to give the Cougars the first point.

Zach Whaanga and
Alvaro Regalado picked up an 8-6 win at first doubles and
KP Pannu and
Matei Avram added an 8-5 victory at second.

Singles play also had another match defaulted to give CSU a free point in the sixth spot. The Cougars then took care of the rest.

Whaanga won a 6-3, 6-4 match over the 29
th-ranked player in the country at second singles, while Regalado won 6-0, 6-2 at third.
Paul Sprengelmeijer was victorious 6-3, 6-2 at fourth and Avram was a 6-2, 6-1 victor at fifth.

Pannu had the tightest match of the day, needing the tiebreak to secure a 6-7, 6-4, 10-8 win over the 21
st-ranked player at first singles.

Columbus State will play its final Peach Belt Conference match on Thursday against No. 23 Georgia College. The Cougars can win the conference outright with a victory. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Walden Tennis Center.
