YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The seventh-ranked Columbus State University baseball team suffered a rare setback on Saturday, falling 11-6 at Young Harris. The Peach Belt Conference contest was played in Young Harris, Ga.

Columbus State (34-8, 16-6 PBC) snapped a modest four-game winning streak with Saturday's loss.

"We made a few costly mistakes today and paid for them," head coach
Greg Appleton said. "You can't make errors in big spots and not expect good teams to make them hurt."

The Cougars looked like they had things on cruise control with a 5-0 lead through four innings.

Grant Berry doubled in the second inning, and
Chase Brown came around to score after a misplay by the centerfielder.
Austin Pharr then brought Berry across the plate with a groundout to give the Cougars an early 2-0 edge.

In the third,
Frank Wager delivered a RBI knock with a single that plated
Justin Evans. Pharr then stretch the lead to five with a two-run homer in the fourth.

Young Harris (25-21, 15-14) scratched four runs across in the fifth after a throwing error kept the inning alive with two outs.

Pharr hit his second home run of the game in the sixth to push the margin back out to two, but the Mountain Lions added three more and took the lead in the bottom half thanks to another miscue from the Cougars.

The game held at 7-6 until the eighth, when YHC put the game away with a grand slam.

Perez Knowles (5-2) was the tough-luck loser on Saturday, giving up seven runs in 5.2 innings, but all seven runs were unearned.
Sheridan Coy and
Drew Reeves combined to pitch the final 2.1 innings.

Brown, Pharr and
Garrett Kirkwood each had two hits. Pharr's multi-homer day gives him 10 for the season.

Columbus State will wrap up the weekend with the rubber game of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
