FLORENCE, S.C. – The third-ranked and top-seeded Columbus State University men's tennis team is headed back to the Peach Belt Conference Tournament championship match after a 5-1 victory over fifth-seeded and No. 25 Georgia College on Saturday. The conference tournament is being played at Francis Marion.

Columbus State (21-3) is in the final match for the third straight year and sixth time overall. The Cougars will take on fourth-ranked and second-seeded Lander, who they defeated 7-2 in February. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.

The Cougars got off to a quick start with
Zach Whaanga and
Alvaro Regalado notching their fourth win over a nationally-ranked duo with an 8-1 victory at first doubles.

Georgia College (11-10) tallied its lone win over
Jorge Vargas and
Shao-Yu Yu at third doubles to even up the match, but
KP Pannu and
Matei Avram took second doubles 8-5 to give the Cougars the edge heading to singles.

Needing three victories, Columbus State took care of business at third, fifth and sixth singles. Vargas got on the board first with a 6-2, 6-2 win at six, before Avram took down fifth 7-6, 6-0. Regalado then clinched the victory with a 6-0, 7-5 win at third.

The Cougars had taken the opening set in the three matches that were unfinished.
