Aiken, S.C. - The Columbus State University men's basketball team fell on the road against USC Aiken 108-81.
Landrius Horton led the way for CSU scoring 19 points to go along with six rebounds. Xavier Williams had his best performance of the season also finishing with 19 points, 11 of which came in the first nine minutes of action.
"We fought hard after falling behind 14-0 to start the game," head coach Robert Moore said. "But we couldn't get the stops we needed in that second half as they pulled away."
USC Aiken got off to a fast start from the opening tip, taking a 14-0 lead after hitting their first four shots from behind the arc. The Pacers finished with seven made threes in that first half giving themselves a 16 point advantage heading into the break.
CSU wasn't ever able to make a second half run as the Pacers continued to drain shots from deep. They shot 62% from the field after halftime, making another 10 threes in the second half to give them 17 overall on the afternoon. Columbus State was able to put in 11 three-pointers of their own, led by Horton and Bryant Givens who each drilled three.
The Cougars did a good job crashing the glass as they grabbed 14 offensive rebounds which led to 21 second-chance points. However, the Pacers kept coming from all angles as they had five players finish in double figures scoring.
The Cougars shot 44.6 percent (29-for-65) from the field and went 11-of-27 from the 3-point line.
Columbus State heads to Dahlonega, Ga. January 9 to take on North Georgia next week. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
