MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Two second half goals were enough as the Columbus State University women's soccer team defeated Georgia College 2-0 to win its sixth consecutive match. The action took place at Bobcat Field in Milledgeville, Ga.
After a slow-paced first half, Columbus State (10-6, 5-4 PBC) cranked up the intensity early in the second period. Late in the 56
th minute,
Tehgan Anguilm started a two plus-minute barrage on the Georgia College defense that was capped off by
Riley Clark's 15
th goal of the season.
Georgia College (4-8-2, 3-4-1) had an opportunity to find the equalizer immediately following the Lady Cougar goal. However, CSU thwarted the attempt to stay in front.
Looking to extend the lead, Columbus State kept up the pressure. CSU earned a corner kick in the 76
th minute and a pair of freshmen capitalized on the chance.
Brenna Harrison was the finisher on the attempt after firing a long-range shot off the pass from
Ireland Bryant.
GC took four shots over the final 13 minutes, but none find the back of the net.
Bria Riancho made two saves on the attempts.
"Anytime you grab three points on the road, especially at a place like Georgia College, you have to be pleased," stated head coach
Jay Entlich. "We have continued to improve, but we are still a long way away from where we need to be."
The two teams combined for just eight shots over the first 45 minutes of play. In the match, the Bobcats held a 12-9 shot advantage.
Sara Halilhodzic started in goal for Columbus State making two saves in her 45 minutes. Riancho earned the victory after stopping three shot attempts over the second half.
Columbus State will conclude its three-match road trip on Wednesday, Oct. 30 in Americus, Ga. taking on Georgia Southwestern. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at the GSW Soccer Field.
