COLUMBUS - The third-ranked Columbus State University men's tennis team faced their third-straight ranked opponent, coming away victorious yet again taking down 11th-ranked USC Aiken 6-1 on Sunday. The Peach Belt Conference match took place at the Walden Tennis Center.
The Cougars came out on top in first doubles with the top-ranked doubles team Zach Whaanga and Alvaro Regalado taking down 39th-ranked Salvador Bandeira and Antonio Sabugueiro 6-3.
At second doubles it was 23rd-ranked KP Pannu and Matei Avram winning 6-3 ensuring the Cougars got the doubles point with two victories. 30th-ranked Arnold Kokulewski and Fabien Asdrubal fell in a close match 4-6 at third doubles.
In singles play the Cougars racked up four straight set wins in their third through sixth positions.
39th-ranked Regalado grabbed a point over 30th-ranked Sabugueiro 6-1, 6-0 beating him in both doubles and singles. It was Kokulewski at fourth singles picking up another Cougar point with a 6-3, 6-3 victory.
61st-ranked Tommaso Schold got the nod at fifth singles winning 6-1, 7-5 while Avram secured another point after a 6-0, 6-3 effort at sixth singles.
Top-ranked Pannu took on 50th-ranked Tales Silva in the top singles position as the two battled it out going to a third set tiebreaker. They split the first two sets 1-6, 7-6 before Pannu came out on top 10-8 at the end.
The lone point for USC Aiken was grabbed at second doubles as Asdrubal fell in a tiebreaker 3-6, 7-5, 10-7.
Winners of ten in a row, Columbus State will play Georgia Gwinnett on Wednesday, March 27. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. at the Walden Tennis Center.
