AUGUSTA, Ga. - The second-ranked Columbus State University men's tennis team took down 42nd-ranked Augusta 6-1 on Saturday afternoon. The Peach Belt Conference match took place in Augusta.
Columbus State got things rolling in doubles taking all three matches to come away with the opening point. Top-ranked doubles team Alvaro Regalado and Zach Whaanga picked up a dominating 6-1 win at the top spot while 26th-ranked KP Pannu and Matei Avram won 6-3 at second doubles.Â
It was Arnold Kokulewski and Fabien Asdrubal who would finish off the clean sweep with a close 7-5 win at third.Â
In singles the Cougars came to battle winning five of the six courts in straight sets.Â
Top-ranked singles player Pannu took down his counterpart 7-5, 6-2 at first singles to win a point for CSU.Â
Over at third and fourth singles it was wins by 18th-ranked Regalado and 74th-ranked Kokulewski. Regalado won 6-2, 6-2 while Kokulewski grabbed another straight set victory at 6-2, 6-4.Â
At the final two singles spots the Cougars cruised their way to two more points. Both Tommaso Schold and 56th-ranked Avram grabbed 6-3, 6-1 straight set wins to lead the Cougars in the rout.Â
The lone loss in singles was at the second spot with Asdrubal falling short in the tiebreaker 2-6, 6-0, 3-6.Â
Columbus State will stay inside of conference as they'll head to Georgia College on Sunday, March 31 to take on the Bobcats. The match is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
