MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The second-ranked Columbus State University men's tennis team won yet again, this time 6-1 on the road taking down Auburn Montgomery Wednesday. The match took place in Montgomery, Alabama.
Columbus State just missed on the sweep in doubles after top-ranked doubles team
Zach Whaanga and
Alvaro Regalado started the Cougars off with a 6-1 win.
Arnold Kokulewski and
Matei Avram got the selection at second doubles and followed it up with a 6-3 win themselves while third doubles
KP Pannu and
Tommaso Schold fell just short losing their match 4-6. The two wins at doubles gave the Cougars the point they needed to go ahead leading into singles play.
Two ranked Cougars picked up wins in singles as top-ranked Pannu grabbed a 6-2, 6-2 straight set win while 25
th-ranked Regalado picked up a 6-2, 6-7, 10-2 victory in third singles.
The four through six spots in singles would end up as Cougars wins in dominating fashion. Kokulewski grabbed a 6-3, 6-3 straight sets win in the third spot while Avram picked up a 6-2, 6-2 straight set victory. Schold finished things off for the Cougars in sixth singles with the straight set 6-4, 6-2 win.
The lone loss in singles for the Cougars was in the second spot as 27th-ranked Whaanga lost two close sets, falling 6-7, 5-7.
The Cougars will have ten days off before their next match against Georgia Southwestern on March 16. The match is scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m.
