AMERICUS, Ga. - The second-ranked Columbus State University men's tennis team picked up their seventh win in a row sweeping their way past Georgia Southwestern 7-0 Saturday. The match took place in Americus, Ga.
It was top-ranked doubles team Zach Whaanga and Alvaro Regalado who crushed their doubles opponent en route to a 6-0 win at the top spot. 15th-ranked KP Pannu and Matei Avram followed suite picking up a 6-3 win at second doubles while Arnold Kokulewski and Fabien Asdrubal grabbed the 6-1 at the third spot to give CSU the doubles point.
Entering singles play it was top-ranked Pannu who took down A. Canovas Ferrando 6-1, 6-0. It was the exact same score and result from when these two squared off last month in singles play. 27th-ranked Whaanga played at second singles and took down one of his doubles counterparts in Nacho Garcia de Sola 6-2, 6-1.
Asdrubal, who didn't play against the Hurricanes in the first match, got the nod at third singles and came away with a dominating 6-2, 6-1 triumph. Kokulewski kept the straight set wins coming for the Cougars as he defeated his opponent 6-3, 6-2 at fourth singles.
Avram got the largest margin of victory in singles play, shutting his challenger out 6-0, 6-0. Finally in sixth singles, it was a straight set 6-1, 6-4 win for Schold to give all six singles for the Cougars straight set conquests.
Columbus State will next jump outside of conference play to take on 4th-ranked West Florida Tuesday, March 19. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
