MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The Columbus State University baseball team dropped a late decision against Georgia College 11-8 on Saturday. The Peach Belt Conference game took place at John Kurtz Field.

For the second straight game, the Cougars took a four-run lead late into the game before the Bobcats pulled the comeback.

"We've got to do a better job at holding a lead," stated head coach Greg Appleton. "Credit to Georgia College for not giving up but we can't let games like today and yesterday slip away from us in the late innings."

Up 7-3 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, GC put up four runs in the seventh to tie the game. A bases-loaded triple followed by a single scored the four runs allowing the Bobcats to pull even.

One inning later, Georgia College struck again, including a three-run home run to put them in front 11-7.

It was the Cougars who got on the board first bringing three across in the second inning. Drake Kirkwood grabbed the RBI on a fielder's choice with another run scoring on an error. Garrett Kirkwood then hit a bloop double near the left field line putting CSU up 3-0.

The Bobcats would answer one inning later hitting a two-run home run to cut the deficit down to one. But the Cougar bats would again get to the pitching of GC.

Two-sacrifice flies by CSU and an RBI-groundout gave Columbus State the 7-3 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.

CSU racked up 13 hits in the game but also stranded ten on the base paths.

Chase Brown led the team at the plate going 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.

Four other Cougars finished with multiple hits on the afternoon including G. Kirkwood who picked up two RBI's as well.

Columbus State will look to take the final game of the series on Sunday, April 28. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
