No. 2 Women's Soccer Takes Home Opener Over Tampa

COLUMBUS - In front of a raucous crowd, the second-ranked Columbus State University women's soccer team won its 18th straight match at the Walden Soccer Complex defeating Tampa 3-1.

The seniors were the heroes as Riley Clark punched in two goals while Flo Spano tucked away an upper-90 shot for CSU's third score of the night.

"I was really happy with our intensity in the second half," stated head coach Jay Entlich. "Give Tampa credit, they took it to us in the first half. They are a very talented team, and we are lucky to get that result."

"It was an amazing atmosphere tonight and I would like to thank all of the student-athletes, fans, and the Columbus RedStar Soccer Club for coming out. I know our players fed off that energy and truly appreciated the support."

It was a scoreless first half with each side coming up short on their scoring opportunities. Bria Riancho made four saves in the half for the Lady Cougars, including fully extending to knock one off the crossbar.

Columbus State (3-0) didn't waste any time though in the second half. Just 45 seconds into the half, Clark controlled a pass into the box from freshman Carley Canzoneri and rocketed a shot by the Tampa defense for the goal.

A few minutes later, it was Clark again, this time off a corner kick from Spano to put the Lady Cougars in front 2-0.

After Tampa got on the board, Spano decided to get into the scoring column herself. Racing by defenders, Spano took a shot from around 25-yards out and placed it perfectly in the upper-right hand corner of the net to push CSU back in front by two.

Tampa (0-3) was able to get a few shots off down the stretch, but none found the net. In the match, CSU outshot the Spartans 28-11.

Riancho moved to 3-0 playing all 90 minutes in net. She made a season-high six saves.
