Women's Soccer Shutouts Lander on Road

Bria Riancho collected her 20th career shutout on Monday.

GREENWOOD, S.C. - Two first half goals were plenty for the Columbus State University women's soccer team on Monday as the Lady Cougars recorded a 2-0 shutout on the road over Lander University. The match took place at Van Taylor Stadium

"This is a very good team win," said head coach Jay Entlich. "We had to deal with the wet conditions today, but the girls didn't let it bother them and got a win in a very tough place to play. It's going to be a grind this week, so we need to get back home and get ready for another road match on Thursday."

It was just four minutes in when Columbus State (2-0-0) went ahead on a Kimmy Edgeworth goal. The score was set up by brilliant passes as Rachael Sweigard rocketed the ball into the box. Anna Grady was there and quickly tapped it right to Edgeworth in the center of the box, where she hammered it by the goalkeeper.

Columbus State's pressure continued with the Lady Cougars tallying four more shots before the play of the night. In the 32nd minute, Olivia Roth bullied two defenders to the ground and then launched an unstoppable shot from around 40-yards out for a goal.

The Lady Cougars nearly had a third goal at the 66-minute mark. Sweigard clunked one off the crossbar while Parker Morgan had a shot saved in the minutes leading up.

Lander's only two shots of the night came within three minutes of each other, but CSU goalkeeper Bria Riancho kept both out of the net.
