FLORENCE, S.C. - The No. 7 Columbus State University women's soccer team barraged Francis Marion University with eight goals en route to an 8-0 shutout on Sunday. The Peach Belt Conference match took place at Hartzler Field in Florence, S.C.
Eight different players contributed to the scoring as Columbus State (5-1-1, 5-1-1 PBC) outshot FMU 26-1 over the match.
It didn't take CSU long to get on the scoreboard. In the 13th minute,
Kelly Hendricks took paces from
Anna Grady and
Kimmy May and turned it into her second goal of the season.
Columbus State went on the attack beginning in the 24th minute. Over the final 20-plus minutes in the opening half, the Lady Cougars found five goals to increase their lead, with
Maddy Peterson starting the scoring parade following a pass from
Rachael Sweigard.
Vanessa Aviles, Sweigard, Brook Ouimette and
Caitlyn Peterson all found the back of the net before the halftime horn.
The Lady Cougars weren't done putting up the points in the second half.
Anna Grady got in on the action with a 54th-minute goal after Hendrick sent a cross into the box to up the margin to 7-0.
Carley Canzoneri put the final touches on the victory with a penalty kick goal in the 72nd minute.
Bria Riancho and
Sara Halilhodzic teamed up in the net to post the shutout for Columbus State.

Columbus State returns to its exhibition slate as the Lady Cougars travel to Mobile, Ala. to face the University of South Alabama on Saturday, March 27. Kickoff is at 4 p.m.
MATCH NOTES
• The eight goals were a season-high for Columbus State and the most in a match since posting a 9-0 victory over USC Aiken on Oct. 20, 2019.
• The 26 shots also set a new season-high for the Lady Cougars.
• The last time CSU had eight different players score in a single-match was on Oct. 17, 2018, against Georgia Southwestern University. Nine different Lady Cougars scored that night in a 14-0 win over the Hurricanes.
• Hedricks, May and Sweigard each had a goal and an assist in the win.
• CSU outshot FMU 15-0 over the first half.
• Columbus State is a perfect 4-for-4 on PK's attempt following Canzoneri's goal.
