No. 1 Men's Tennis Blanks Francis Marion

The Cougars have won 27 straight PBC matches after the win.

COLUMBUS - The top-ranked Columbus State University men's tennis team ran through another Peach Belt Conference foe on Thursday as the Cougars defeated Francis Marion University 7-0. The PBC match took place at the John W. Walden Tennis Center.

With the win, the Cougars improve to 10-0 on the year and extend their conference winning streak to 27 matches.

CSU lost two just games in doubles play on Thursday, with both coming in the top spot. In that match, Felix Steen and Christian Garay still had no issue in a 6-2 decision over Mauricio Guerrero and William Anth-Forsberg. Tommaso Schold and Pietro Martinetti remained perfect on the season at second doubles with a 6-0 shutout win over Adam Ernberg and Leonel Gonzalez, while Javier Cueto Ramos and Justin Welz blanked Aaron Sarenwald and David Bodson at third doubles.

Francis Marion (2-10, 0-5 PBC) didn't put up much of a fight in singles play. Schold was penciled into the top spot for the first time this season and had no problem in a 7-6, 6-3 win over Guerrero. Cueto Ramos moved up to second singles and took his match 6-3, 6-0 over Anth-Forsberg. Steen, the reigning ITA UTR Division II National Player of the Week, dropped just one game in an impressive 6-0, 6-1 win against Gonzalez.

The bottom half of the Cougar lineup continued the dominance. Like Steen, Welz grabbed a 6-0, 6-1 outcome at fourth singles, while Martinetti was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Ernberg at the fifth position. Jorge Jimenez Acosta recorded his second win of the campaign at sixth singles after taking down Joshua Schaefer 6-2, 6-1.

Columbus State remains at home at the Walden Tennis Center for its next match against No. 18 Flagler College on Sunday, March 28 at 11 a.m.
