Women's Soccer Heads to PBC Championship Match

CSU will be playing in its 13th PBC Tournament title match.

DAHLONEGA, Ga. - The Columbus State University women's soccer team will play for a Peach Belt Conference championship following a 2-1 win over 10th-ranked University of North Georgia on Tuesday in the PBC Tournament semifinals. The match was played at the UNG Soccer Complex.

The third-seeded Lady Cougars (6-1-1) will play either top-seeded Flagler College or fourth-seeded UNC Pembroke on Saturday in the finals. The location and time of the match are yet to be determined.

Columbus State didn't waste any time in getting on the board as Parker Morgan found the back of the net in the 15th minute. A few minutes later, it was Vanessa Aviles who headed home a loose ball in the box in the 22nd minute to extend the lead.

North Georgia (7-3-0) fired off two shots before the half, but one went wide left while Bria Riancho blocked the other.

Columbus State was on the attack for its third goal of the match early in the second, but UNG goalkeeper Morgan Ramby was there for two saves over the first 10 minutes.

UNG made things interesting late in the match. Following another Riancho save, Abbie Crane slid one past the senior to bring the Nighthawks within one with less than 15 minutes to go.

The Lady Cougar backline didn't falter again though, not allowing another shot to secure Columbus State's 13th trip to the PBC Tournament title match.

The win was also a special one for Columbus State head coach Jay Entlich, who picked up his 300th as a collegiate coach.
