AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Peach Belt Conference announced start times for the upcoming baseball championship series between Columbus State University and 25th-ranked University of North Georgia on Monday.
The PBC Tournament presented by Under Armour will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 15 at Bob Stein Stadium in Dahlonega, Ga. The second game of the best-of-three series will be on Sunday at 1 p.m., with the if-necessary game following 30 minutes later if needed.Â
Tickets for the championship series will go on sale at 3 p.m. on Monday.
The Cougars (27-14) will be looking for the program's sixth PBC Tournament title this weekend after an impressive two-game sweep over regular-season champions and 24th-ranked UNC Pembroke in the semifinal round. CSU scored 21 runs over the weekend, including bashing four home runs in its 14-10 win in the clincher.Â
Second-seeded UNG had to dig itself out of a hole in its semifinal matchup with Young Harris College following a 10-7, 10-inning loss in the series opener. The Nighthawks then went on to win game two 6-3 on Saturday before taking the if-game in dramatic style with a 12-10 walk-off victory. It's the second time North Georgia has reached the PBC finals and the first since 2009.
The two teams met for a three-game set in Columbus on April 2 and 3 with the Cougars taking two-of-three thanks to a walk-off home run from
Steven Minter in the rubber game of the series.Â
