Second Half Goals Helps No. 11 Cougars to Road Win At Georgia College

Freshman Lauren Barnes scored a goal for the Cougars in the win.

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The No. 11 Columbus State University women's soccer team scored two second-half goals to secure a 3-1 victory over Georgia College at Bobcat Field on Saturday to begin Peach Belt Conference play.

After Georgia College (3-2-0, 0-1-0 PBC) tied things up late in the opening half, Maddie DeFranco wasted no time scoring the go-ahead goal, finding the back of the net five minutes into the second half to give the lead back to the Cougars.

Emma Beddow added a goal in the 70th minute thanks to a pass from Lizz Forshaw to make it 3-1.

"This was a good way to open up conference play," stated head coach Jay Entlich. "We faced adversity after GC tied it up, but our players made the adjustments needed at the half to grab a nice road win."

Columbus State (5-0-1, 1-0-0) dominated the pace of play, outshooting the Bobcats 23-5, including by a 14-3 margin over the first half. Lauren Barnes scored her second goal of the year in the third minute to open the scoring for CSU.

Lizzie Hedrick grabbed a win in net for CSU after playing 45 scoreless minutes. She saved her only shot on goal to improve to 3-0-0 on the year. Sara Halilhodzic started her sixth straight match, allowing a goal in the 33rd minute.
