No. 10 Cougars Win Fifth Straight, Blank Lander 3-0

Freshman Emma Beddow scored two goals to help lift CSU over the Bearcats.

COLUMBUS - Another stout defensive effort along with some timely passes helped the No. 10 Columbus State University women's soccer team to a 3-0 win over Lander University in Peach Belt Conference action on Saturday at the Walden Soccer Complex.

The win was the fifth in the row for the Cougars (7-0-1, 2-0-0 PBC) and the fifth shutout of the year for the backline.

"I thought our defensive play was outstanding today against a team that knows how to finish," commented head coach Jay Entlich. "We were in the right places today on offensive, and we had a few beautiful passes to get our scorers into position."

CSU got on the board early as Emma Beddow scored her first goal of the match in the 7th minute after Anna Grady chipped a ball into the box to set up her fellow freshman. Grady also got into the scoring column before the end of the first half in the 30th minute when she headed home a cross off the foot of Maria Kilset.

The attack continued coming out of halftime as Beddow made it 3-0 just 85 seconds into the second half. After a shot was deflected by Lander goalkeeper Sarah Owen, Beddow cleaned up the box for her team-leading fifth goal of the year.

The Cougars continued to fire off shots for the remainder of the game, outshooting Lander (3-3-1, 1-1-0) 19-9 overall.

Sara Halilhodzic didn't see much action in the first half in net for the Cougars, while Lizzie Hedrick picked up three saves over the final 45 minutes of play.
