MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The No. 2 Columbus State University men's tennis team grabbed a 5-2 win over Division I Alabama State University on Wednesday at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center.
The Cougars (2-0) had to work to grab the first point of the afternoon but still came out on top in all three doubles matches. Both CSU's first and second doubles teams needed an extra set to grab wins, while Javier Cueto Ramos and Felix Steen took third doubles 6-2 over Kristofer Johnson and Matis Amier.Â
Alabama State (0-2) made things interesting by winning fourth and sixth singles to record points but the Cougars were still able to prevail. Top-ranked Alvaro Regalado easily took first singles, 6-3, 6-0 over Chris Andre. At third singles, Schold was also a straight-set winner as he downed Juan Rodriguez 6-2, 6-3 for his second win of the season.Â
CSU's other wins were of the three-set fashion as 36th-ranked Pietro Martinetti took down Johnson 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 at fifth singles before eighth-ranked Cueto Ramos clinched the win for Columbus State with a 7-5, 5-7, 6-1 victory in the second position.
