SURPRISE, AZ – The eighth-ranked and ninth-seeded Columbus State women's tennis team opened play in the NCAA National Championship Round of 16 with a convincing 4-1 win over eighth-seeded and 17th-ranked Washburn University on Tuesday at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Ichabods collected the first points of the match by way of wins at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles for a 1-0 lead.
- Columbus State kicked off doubles play with three victories in the top three flights.
- Junior Monika Temkova turned in a dominant performance at No. 2 with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Riko Konno, the 59th-ranked singles player per the ITA Singles Rankings.
- Senior (13) Nikoline Gullacksen won 6-2, 6-1 on court one over 31st-ranked Renske Ubachs, and freshman Claudia De Lucas registered a 6-4, 6-2 triumph in the third flight.
- As she has for much of the 2026 postseason, redshirt-sophomore Sofia Lauretti provided the deciding point for the Lady Cougars with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-0 win on court four to advance CSU deeper into the NCAA Championships.

With the win, Columbus State moves on to face No. 7 Mississippi College, the top-seeded program in the bracket, tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m.
