AUGUSTA, Ga. - For the second straight week,
Hannah Rose Corbin was named the Peach Belt Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week by the league office.
Corbin continued her great work to end the regular season, tossing nine scoreless innings in PBC play to help the Cougars sweep USC Aiken and secure the second seed in the upcoming conference tournament. The righty plowed through the Pacer lineup in a 1-0 CSU win to start the series. In the complete-game shutout, Corbin punched out seven and limited USCA to four hits. She had three perfect innings in the outing, including retiring 11 of the first 12 hitters she faced.
The Clanton, Ala. native came back to slam the door shut on the Pacers in game two, sitting down the order in the sixth and seventh in a 5-0 Cougar win.
Earlier in the week, Corbin threw a six-inning complete game against 10th-ranked Valdosta State, striking out eight in the effort. Overall, she punched out 15 hitters in 15 innings, while allowing just one earned run.
Corbin ended the regular season leading the PBC in innings (170), strikeouts (189), wins (17) and complete games (19).
It's the fourth time this season the righty has collected the honor and the seventh time overall in her career.
Columbus State is gearing up for the PBC Tournament, which begins on Friday in Greenwood, S.C. The Cougars take on seventh-seeded Flagler College at 7:30 p.m. in the quarterfinal round.
