COLUMBUS - With the 2022 Major League Baseball draft looming, let's take a look at the former Cougars scattered across the minor leagues.
The Columbus State University baseball program has a storied history, with nearly 50 former players signing deals with a MLB team to join a minor league affiliate. Since 2020, CSU has racked up 95 wins and reached the NCAA Southeast Super Regional in 2021.
Here are the active Cougars in the MiLB.
Justin Evans - A+ Beloit Sky Carp. (Miami Marlins)
2022: 5-1, 2.70 ERA, 36.2 IP, 2 saves, 55 Ks, 1.41 WHIP
Evans pitched at Columbus State in 2016 and 2018 before being drafted by the Miami Marlins in the 19th round of the 2018 draft.
Bryson Horne - A+ for the Rome Braves (Atlanta Braves)
2022: .276 BA, .342 OBP, .421 SLG, .762 OPS, 7 HR, 29 RBIs
Horne played first base for Columbus State during the covid shortened 2020 season but still managed to hit .425 while slugging .725. Bryson was signed to a free agent deal to the Atlanta Braves.
Kolton Ingram - AA Rocket City Trash Pandas (Los Angeles Angles)
2022: 3-0, 2.65 era, 37.1 IP, 7 saves, 50 Ks, .857 WHIP
Ingram pitched for the Cougars from 2016 to 2019. Kolton was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 37th round of the 2019 draft.
With Columbus State coming off an impressive 2022 baseball season, the Cougars will be looking forward to finding out if any of their talented roster will be selected to the next level.
