MOBILE, Ala. - The Columbus State University baseball team takes both games of the double-header against Spring Hill College on Sunday afternoon. The win improves the Cougars to 5-1 on the season and Spring Hill falls to 1-2 with the losses.
GAME 1:
Columbus State was in a pitchers duel until the fourth inning when
Derek Wylie took lift off in Mobile, Alabama. This would be his second homerun of the year and it supported the Cougar pitching staff all the runs they needed. CSU blew the game open in the sixth inning when they scored on three singles by
Matthew McDade,
Connor Kirley, and
Colby Brabston.
Matthew McDade continued to ambush opposing pitching as he launched his fourth homerun of the season in the eighth inning. McDade holds the led in the Peach Belt Conference for homeruns with four and runs batted in with 15.
Noah Windhorst was outstanding yet again for the Cougars pitching staff as he threw eight shutout innings, with four strikeouts while scattering three hits. The eight innings would be the second highest in his career at Columbus State and he is now in second place in the PBC with 13 total innings on the year.
Leo Giannoni would finish the game and strikeout two batters in his scoreless appearance.
GAME 2:
The Badgers jumped on the Cougars in the first inning when they scored two runs on two hits. CSU would battle back in the top of the third with back-to-back doubles from
Isaac Bouton and
Colby Brabston which tied the game up. The back-and-fourth game continued when Spring Hill blasted a two-run shot putting the Badgers ahead. Three walks had the Cougars threatening in the top of the sixth then an error pushed one across for the Cougars then stepped in
Will Wilbanks and he put the Cougars on his back as he unloaded on a ball to bring home everybody, a majestic three-run shot.
Chandler Ring would come in the game the half inning after and stop any comeback chance Spring Hill had in mind. Ring tossed two innings while striking out three. He also had no hits against him and allowed no walks.

The Cougars will now look to sweep Spring Hill College in game three of the series tomorrow in Mobile, Ala. at 1 p.m CST at Sims-Galle Field.
