MOBILE, Ala. - The Columbus State University baseball team completes the sweep against Spring Hill College with a win on Monday afternoon. The Cougars move to 6-1 on the season and the Badgers fall to 1-3.
Columbus State was able to shut down the Badger offense thanks to some solid starting pitching this weekend. Head Coach
Greg Appleton turned to sophomore
Peyton Burton for game three of this series. In his first start in a CSU uniform, Peyton tossed six scoreless innings while scattering two hits and punching out four Spring Hill batters. As well as he is closing games, he might be even better starting them. Six innings would be the longest outing of his career.
The Cougars had another field day at the plate and they collected seven runs on 10 hits. After a scoreless first inning from both teams,
Isaac Bouton got the Cougars on the board in the second inning with a double to right field plating
Connor Kirley and
Trace Twardoski.
Derek Wylie hit a two-run homerun in the third, his second consecutive game with a bomb, putting CSU up by four runs. CSU then tacked on some extra runs late from some singles by
Matthew McDade and
Isaiah Hernandez.

The Cougars will head home to Columbus and welcome in the Flagler College Saints on Friday, Feb. 17 for their first Peach Belt Conference series of the season. Flagler is currently on a six game losing streak entering today.Â
