COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University baseball team completes the sweep of Flagler College on Sunday afternoon by a score of 7-4. Columbus State improves to 9-1 on the season and 3-0 in Peach Belt Conference play. Flagler falls to 0-10 and 0-3 PBC play.
Flagler wasted no time today getting runners aboard and threatening for a big inning. CSU starting pitcher,
Peyton Burton, found himself in a bases loaded, no out jam in which he rolled a double play ball then got the next batter to pop up to limit the damage. The 6-3 right hander settled in after that and gave the Cougars all they could ask for as he tossed six and a third innings while striking out three Saints.
CSU quickly tied the game back up with a single from
Derek Wylie which scored
Isaac Bouton who had a lead-off double to start the half inning. The Cougars struck again in the third inning when
Will Wilbanks and
Win Johns hit back-to-back rbi singles to put the Cougars ahead.Â
Columbus State would tack on an insurance run in the sixth inning when the red-hot
Trace Twardoski smacked his second homerun of the season over the left field wall. Twardoski now has two straight games with a homerun and three straight two hit games.
Win Johns would hit his first homerun of the season in the eighth inning to extend the Cougar lead to four. Win now has three games this season with two or more hits.
Flagler would make a late run to threaten the CSU lead but
Logan Seehafer was summoned out of the Cougar bullpen and he extinguished the FC threat instantly.Â
NOTES:
-
Ian King has four straight games with two or more hits
-
Matthew McDade and
Derek Wylie extend their hitting streaks to five games
-
