COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University baseball team drops their first game of the season by a score of 13-5 on Friday afternoon to West Alabama.
Both teams came out the first inning and went down in order 1-2-3. In the second inning, West Alabama exploded for seven runs and seven hits in the inning. The Tigers would finish with seven extra base hits on the day.
The Cougars would scratch one across during the bottom half of the inning by the way of a fielders choice and would score two during the bottom of the third to make it a four run ball game. The relentless UWA offense responded by putting up two runs of their own and then they blew the game open with a three-run shot to left-center in the top of the fifth.
Seth Nelson had a great night at the plate going 2-4 with two singles.
Derek Wylie and
Matthew McDade both picked up their first RBI of the season and got on base via a walk.
Cole English was summoned out of the Cougar bullpen in the sixth inning and shut down the hot UWA bats as he was impressive in his Cougar debut. English pitched four innings, scattered two hits, and only gave up one run.
