Isaac Bouton's two homeruns push Cougars past Albany State

Bouton is tied for second in the PBC with two homers on the season

COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University baseball team defeated Albany State 4-1 Wednesday afternoon. The Cougars move to 3-1 and Albany State falls to 0-1 on the young season.

Runs were at a premium as both squads had trouble getting runners on and getting them in. Jamie Boatright got the start for CSU and did not disappoint. He pitched four scoreless while scattering three hits and striking out four.

The Columbus State pitching staff got all the run support they needed when Isaac Bouton homered in the third inning and the seventh. These were Bouton's first and second homeruns of the year and he is on pace to break his personal record of homeruns in a year which he set in 2021 with 12. Forming the "1-2" punch at the top of the lineup and hitting behind him is the red hot Matthew McDade. McDade is currently a force no opposing pitcher wants to see and he continued that hot start to the season as he hit another homerun. The senior second baseman has three homeruns in three games and is leading the PBC in homeruns and RBI's.

The Cougar bullpen was fantastic as Boatright gave way to Zack Brockman and he threw two innings while striking out three. The back end of the bullpen was terrific again as Leo Giannoni, Ryan Suppa, and Peyton Burton were not messing around. The trio combined for three scoreless innings, one hit, and three strikeouts. They gave Albany State no hope for any comeback. Brockman picked up his first win of the season and Peyton Burton earned his first save of the season

UP NEXT
Columbus State will go on the road for the first time this year as they travel to Mobile, AL to take on the Badgers of Spring Hill. CSU won the series last year against Spring Hill as they took two games out of three.
