COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University baseball team won the rubber game against North Georgia by a score of 15-4 on Sunday, March 12. CSU gets their 10th PBC win of the season and they improve to 17-4 (10-2 PBC). The Nighthawks are now 11-10 overall and 5-7 in PBC play.
North Georgia struck early as they scored in the first inning on a single through the right side of the field. Columbus State starter
Peyton Burton settled in after that and gave the Cougars a solid outing of four innings while striking out three.
CSU got the lead back in the third inning when
Isaiah Hernandez got the scoring started with a single to right field scoring two. Columbus State loaded the bases up as junior slugger
Derek Wylie hit a grand slam to blow the game open.
Colby Brabston hit an rbi single to end the scoring in the inning.
UNG scored three in the top half of the fourth inning but they would be held from there on out because of excellent bullpen work from
Logan Seehafer and
Cole English. The duo combined for three dominate innings which they held the opposition scoreless.
In the sixth inning,
Derek Wylie would blast his second homerun of the game then two batters later,
Colby Brabston would hit a line drive for a homerun that got out of Ragsdale Field in a matter of seconds. Brabston would then hit a no-doubt shot over the net in right field in the seventh inning to walk off the Nighthawks via the run rule.
