PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Columbus State University baseball team defeated the University of West Florida by a score of 2-1 on Wednesday, March 22. The Cougars sweep the Argonauts and improve to 21-6 and 11-4 in the PBC. UWF drops to 13-13 on the season and 5-7 in the GSC.
The Cougars and Argonauts were engaged in a pitchers duel all game long. Both bullpens were perfect as neither gave up any runs or walks and they combined for seven innings and six strike outs.
Johnny Dow got his first start for the Cougars since opening day and he turned in a beauty. Dow went six innings of one run ball while scattering four hits and striking out three batters. He then turned the ball over to
Chandler Ring and he only allowed one baserunner in his appearance of two innings.
Peyton Burton pitched the ninth inning and picked up his second save of the season which leads the Cougars.
The Argonauts scored first in the second inning with a single to center. CSU was held scoreless until the sixth inning,
Connor Kirley singled to start the inning, then
Isaac Bouton walked.
Matthew McDade loaded the bases with one out and the always dangerous
Derek Wylie was hit by a pitch to tie the game. One batter later, Colby Braston hit a ball to the shortstop who was unable to throw out
Isaac Bouton who scored to put the Cougars on top. The Columbus State bullpen held onto the led from there on out.
