Cougars dominate and shutout Montevallo 4-0

Zack Brockman pitched eight scoreless innings in the win

COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University baseball team extend their win-streak to four games after their 4-0 victory over Montevallo on Wednesday afternoon. The Cougars improve their record to 15-3 (8-1 PBC) and Montevallo loses their second straight game and falls to 15-3 (5-1 GSC).

Zack Brockman was brilliant in his longest outing as a Cougar and his first start of the season. The senior right hander pitched eight scoreless innings while walking none and striking out four batters. Brockman now has the fourth most innings pitched for CSU with 17.2 IP. He then gave way to Leo Giannoni to close out the game and he completed the shutout as he struck out two in his scoreless inning.

CSU had their second lowest total of hits in a game this season but they made them count. Ian King got the scoring started in the second inning when he beat out a double-play ball to the shortstop.

Derek Wylie came up to the plate in the third inning and gave the Cougars some breathing room as he launched a no-doubt shot onto the Cunningham Center and over the 403 sign in dead center. With the homerun, Wylie moves into first in the Peach Belt Conference with seven homerun's. Isaac Bouton then added some insurance with a solo shot in the seventh inning. Bouton's fifth round tripper of the year moves him into third in the PBC in homerun's.

- Derek Wylie extended his hit streak to 13 games
- Isaac Bouton extends hit streak to 7 games and has an RBI in 7 out of his last 8 games
- Will Wilbanks has a hit in 4 of his last 5 games
- Leo Giannoni has 8 scoreless outings in his last 9 appearances
